Neurology and Neurosurgery
More than 5,500 patients come to the Northwest Texas Healthcare System Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery each year for comprehensive care from experts in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery and neuroradiology. The team treats neurological problems, from chronic back pain and sleep disorders to rare brain tumors. The department's emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration helps create a seamless integration of services. The department includes 11 centers, each with its own dedication to finding innovative ways to care for patients.
Neuroscience
The neurophysiological testing capabilities available at the Neuroscience Department benefit patients with numerous neurological conditions.
Services include quantitative EEG, continuous EEG monitoring with video for seizures, continuous neurological monitoring and monitoring of visual, auditory, somatosensory, cognitive and motor-evoked potentials.
The Neuroscience Department offers specialized neurophysiological monitoring during cranial surgery to gain critical information about patient status. By recording electrical signals at different levels of the neuraxis or at different muscle groups, caregivers can detect adverse changes before complications arise. Surgeons can then use this information to alter the surgical technique in an attempt to prevent neurological deficits.
