Pediatric Hospitalists

Pediatric HospitalistPediatric hospitalists are physicians who provide medical care only to patients who have been admitted to The Children's Hospital at Northwest Texas Healthcare System. They treat patients at the request of the family's primary care physician, or when the patient does not have a primary care physician.

What Pediatric Hospitalists Do

Pediatric hospitalists are responsible for the care of children who are patients at The Children's Hospital at Northwest Texas Healthcare System. Hospitalists see patients on a daily basis while they are in the hospital, and maintain contact with the child's primary care physician so that he or she receives appropriate care.

When a patient is ready to be discharged from the hospital, pediatric hospitalists will arrange for prescriptions and schedule follow-up visits with the patient's primary care physician, if needed.

Pediatric Hospitalists and Primary Care Physicians Work Together

Pediatric hospitalists and primary care physicians work as a team to help ensure that patients at The Children's Hospital at Northwest Texas Healthcare System receive comprehensive and appropriate medical care. Hospitalists will obtain a medical history from the primary care physician, and make sure that everyone involved in the child's care is informed about any previous medical conditions or surgery.

Pediatric hospitals and the patient's primary care physician will agree on a plan of care, and the hospitalist will keep the primary care physician informed throughout the child's hospital stay.

When patients are ready for discharge from the hospital, pediatric hospitalists will prepare a summary report for the primary care physician, who will then resume care for the child.
