Adult Critical Care Services

The Critical Care Units at Northwest Texas Healthcare System include a 22-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit and a 22-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit.

OUR PATIENTS
As the designated regional trauma center, we receive patients from the 26 counties that surround the Amarillo area. The patients we care for are as diverse as the regions we serve.

  • Critically Ill / Injured Trauma Patients
  • Heart Surgery Patients
  • Critical Surgery Patients
  • Acute Critically Ill Patients

THE DOCTORS
There is an outstanding team of doctors who care for each patient that requires intensive medical care. They come from a variety of medical specialties and represent the finest medical care available in the Panhandle of Texas.

OUR COMMITMENT
We are committed to providing the highest level of intensive healthcare to each patient and family who enters our department, as well as to providing a supportive and friendly work environment.

Visiting Hours and Rules

The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) visiting hours are as follows:
  • 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • 12:00 – 12:30 p.m.
  • 2:00 – 2:30 p.m.
  • 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Please help us care for our patients:

Limit to two (2) visitors for 30 minutes at a time.

Children ages 8 – 13 may visit between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. only, if accompanied by an adult.

Due to the critical nature of the condition of our patients, visiting times are strictly adhered to and may vary at the discretion of the healthcare team.

Out of respect for other visitors, children under the age of 14 are not allowed in the Adult Critical Care waiting room at any time. They are welcome to wait in the Main Lobby waiting area on the 2nd Floor.

No more than two (2) family members per patient are allowed in the Adult Critical Care waiting room after 9:00 p.m.

No bedding is allowed in our waiting areas.

No meals are allowed in our waiting areas. Food is limited to vending-type of refreshments only and please dispose properly of your trash.

Due to limited seating, please limit the number of family members in the MICU Waiting Room. Other members may wait in the Main Lobby on the 2nd Floor.
